A.G Plate Biography
Adolf Gustav Plate (1874–1914) was a German-born Australian artist, writer, and publisher known for documenting Pacific cultures (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Australia) through his art and travel writings, working with German merchant ships and later settling in Australia before his early death in Sydney; he was also the father of modernist artist Carl Olaf Plate and Margo Lewers of the Lewers Bequest.
