Ellie Norton (working 1920s and 30s)

Ellie Norton was an Australian printmaker working in South Australia and later Bribie Island QLD in the 20s and 30s. Not to be confused with Canadian woodcut artist, Elizabeth Norton.

Little is known about the artist but a woodcut is held in the collection of the Art Gallery of SA and Ellie Norton is also discussed in Roger Butlers PRINTED book (1885-1955).

Discussion of SA printmakers using woodcut techniques..
’The technique was introduced to South Australian artists by Mary P. Harris in 1922…it was through her example the other South Australian artists, Charles Pavia, Ellie Norton and Dorothy Lungley produced works in similar character’ Roger Butler, p 132.
