Sally lived with me for just over a year. It was a sad story. I used to walk past the house where she was chained 24/7 to her kennel. She was overweight, and I never saw her walked. I did call the RSPCA, which was useless. Apparently, ‘she could have been walked at 2am,’ so without any further proof, she had shelter, water, and food. I started asking the owners if I could walk her. They didn’t care, so that was how the relationship began. In retrospect, I was concerned about appearing rude to the owners, I will never make that mistake again. If I had stepped in earlier, I would have had more time with this delightful little dog. The owners used to go away a lot so I started taking her home and I left a note in her kennel. No one bothered that I had her and so one day, I just asked if I could keep her. I wished I had done this earlier. She had her last year going on walks ( she was arthritic as well so sometimes we just carried her in a pouch), but she loved it. She had my two Poodles for company, and she had nice food and lots of love. The day I had to say goodbye was a terrible day. Anyone who has experienced it knows what I mean. But her spirit and zest for life are still with me every day.

Jane’s work revolves around what she views in the landscape, whether that is urban or rural and she enjoy’s travelling to new areas (usually camping in her Kombi with her dogs) to gain inspiration.
Utilising free brushwork, Canfield’s work is a tonal exploration of reduction and simplification.
