NEW WORLD | Nov 24

A small series of works exploring displacement, the search for home and reconnecting with family.

In this ongoing exploration of blue colours and tones I am working to understand  some of the deepest and bluest feelings I’ve pushed back into the corners of my heart, not having the courage to face them until now.

As a young child I was brought to the other side of the world by my parents who had left Ukraine to find a more fair world. They loved their home, their family and friends but could not continue living in the difficult conditions there so chose to move to Australia in the hope of more opportunities and a better life for us all.

In this latest body of work I want to explore what it means to feel the discomfort but also the electricity and excitement of living in a new country, a new world.

Nastia Gladushchenko

A mural artist and painter living and working in Katoomba. Her work examines the relationship between humans and the plant world and she uses botanical imagery to remind us of the importance of our connection to the natural environment and to each other.

With a background in Interior Architecture, exploring the way our environments affect our bodies and minds is of strong interest to her and by creating pieces featuring imagery of oversized botanicals, she hopes to transport people to a place between a playground and a meditative space.

As well as running a personal art practice, she’s interested in creating pieces for and with the community to allow them to access art and to experience its’ benefits in public spaces.
