A surreal celestial event where nature and cosmic forces converge in an electrifying visual narrative. A blazing red moon—evocative of a total lunar eclipse—hangs heavy in a saturated twilight sky, casting its glow over a chaotic flight of birds. These birds, rendered in exquisite detail, seem to emerge from or be drawn toward a turbulent explosion of fiery clouds and lightning, their flight paths intersecting with leaves, butterflies, and mysterious objects like keys, scrolls, and amulets.
The colour palette transitions dramatically from the serene blues of the upper atmosphere to the explosive oranges, reds, and purples of the storm below. The visual tension between the birds’ graceful forms and the cataclysmic energy of the environment evokes themes of transformation, upheaval, and migration—both literal and symbolic.
The painting blends elements of magical realism and cosmic mythology, inviting viewers to interpret the work as a meditation on the cycle of life, the power of natural forces, or even the collapse and rebirth of worlds. Each element, from the glint of a feather to the flicker of distant lightning, is charged with narrative potential.
This work compels the viewer to stand still and absorb its layered beauty—a moment of frozen motion, like a myth caught mid-flight.
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, all-consuming greed, ambition to the point of ruthlessness, and the ensuing downfall that befalls the titular character make for a highly entertaining yet edifying tale. Soothsayers, the three witches forewarn Macbeth of the perils in pursuing his chosen path, for all actions, be they of good or bad intention, have consequences. Yet a witch’s oracle is not needed to predict the future. One, if they choose, may stop and observe the political, social, environmental, and moral mechanisms that form the basis of our contemporary world. The foundations that have supported humanity throughout the ages and ensure harmony thrives, now decaying at the core. The future has become alarmingly clear, and the witches in Macbeth might just revel in its horrific certainty. The rise of the far right globally, of Trumpism and the cult of MAGA, mixed with the dilution of basic human rights, a dash of bigotry, sexism, and homophobic hate, a sprinkle of war, a splash pestilence in the shape of a new global pandemic, a pinch of economic ruin, and a cup full of devasting climate change to raise the temperature beyond repair and see fragile and vital ecosystems fail. These are the ingredients of a perfect and truly horrifying storm. Something Wicked This Way Comes indeed, and we through our own apathy and greed are powerless to stop its fury. Adriana Seserko
