Who am I?

On the precipice I stand mighty in the face of the imminent storm. My ancient tower of ice and stone, enfolded by the swirling mists of time, is fortified by a thousand frozen daggers thrust upon the icy wind. Travellers led astray far from mother nature’s warm embrace, find no hearth to thaw their cold and leaden bones. The forceful shove of chilly hands and the haunting howl of the wind are their only greeting. So many have come and so many have perished, in the pursuit of securing my sovereignty, and with each attempt, my kingdom falters, crumbling at its foundations. I am not invincible. How I am now but a shadow of my former glory. Fading like the setting sun. With my demise, it must be said, I alone will not perish. One of four, I exist in perfect harmony, the ice to summer heat. Come see my fortress soon my tomb, where my bones will rest, and with them see the last vestiges of man, for no one will be spared.

I am the ghost of winters past.

Artist notes

Ripe with symbolic imagery, my paintings are statements on the world I see around me. It is impossible to create if not from the heart and to create from the heart is to feel deeply. Simply put, whatever I paint comes from the uncompromisingly passionate, highly emotional part of my being, and the part is such a force to reckon with that it needs an outlet. Art is my outlet. So, believe that each artwork I produce is an intimate and personal glimpse into my soul, for one will never see a truer and more unedited version of Adriana. Anyone who has followed my modest art career to date is aware of my fears that more oft than not impregnate my creations, and that stem from the terrifying reality of climate change. The Ghost of Winters Past is no exception and is yet another reminder that our natural world is ailing.

It is true that each painting has a definite and crucial meaning, plucked from the inner thoughts and feelings of yours truly. True but not finite. I invite the viewer to feel their way through the artwork, interpret the paintings hidden message independently. Do seek to unravel and decipher the meanings of the symbolic imagery and as you do so, I implore you to stop and think carefully of what it is that is at risk of being lost. What can you do to make a difference? Change begins with the individual and our decisions today will determine the course of our future. Act wisely and act now, for time is of the essence.
