WINNER of the Inaugural Hill Painting Prize 2026

In the early days of my painting career, I was inspired by architectural elements- in particular, the rooftops of Katoomba. Over the last 21 years, I have dipped in and out of urban landscape painting and l recently returned to it as an inspirational element. This painting is of no specific view. My aim these days is semi abstraction, but the memory of places I have seen remains in my head and I become more interested in the palette, angles, shapes and the flow of the work.

Jane Canfield

Jane’s work revolves around what she views in the landscape, whether that is urban or rural and she enjoy’s travelling to new areas (usually camping in her Kombi with her dogs) to gain inspiration.

Utilising free brushwork, Canfield’s work is a tonal exploration of  reduction and simplification.
