John Caldwell
Caldwell was born in Sydney (Australia), in 1942. Following schooling, Caldwell worked for ten years in the pastoral industry, primarily in the Channel Country of Western Queensland. This was his first exposure to the rugged and dramatic scenery that would become the subject of his lifelong love for the Australian landscape.
He travelled overseas, living in London before returning to Sydney and studying literature at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Caldwell has worked as a visual artist since completing these studies in 1976, with more than a hundred exhibitions held throughout Australia and overseas.
Caldwell primarily draws inspiration from his travels throughout Australia, Europe and Antarctica to gather reference material for these stunning and original works of art.
WORKS
For more than forty years, Caldwell’s artwork has been shown in public and private galleries throughout Australia and overseas.
He is represented in the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), the National Portrait Gallery (Canberra), and more than a dozen other State and Regional Galleries.
