Norman Lindsay (1879-1969)
A master draftsman. Creative powerhouse. Controversial character. Arguably the most celebrated Australian black and white illustrator of the 20th and 21st century. His work at the Bulletin built the foundations of his unique characterised style.
He is known for his interpretation of the female figure in many mediums such as etching, watercolours, oils, pen and ink and pencil. He has become an icon in the history of Australian Art, embracing controversy and staunchly refusing to change subject styles to please the masses.
He loved the female form and believed that the woman was the centre of the universe, without women, our race would not exist!
