Let's Play House I & II

Originally conceived as a large-scale installation commissioned by the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Let’s Play House unfolded as a free-flowing painted roll of canvas that hovered overhead like a cubby house, inviting viewers into a world of curiosity, play, and gentle discovery. These two paintings were cut directly from that original canvas installation, carrying with them fragments of its immersive landscape. Across their surfaces, silhouettes inspired by the plants and animals of the Blue Mountains emerge among abstract organic forms in deep greens and vivid bursts of colour — like glimpsing a Waratah blooming unexpectedly in the bush. Together, the works become a quiet reflection on the idea of home: not only our own, but the homes of the plants and animals that inhabit this landscape, and our shared responsibility to care for and steward the land they belong to.

Nastia Gladushchenko

A mural artist and painter living and working in Katoomba. Her work examines the relationship between humans and the plant world and she uses botanical imagery to remind us of the importance of our connection to the natural environment and to each other.

With a background in Interior Architecture, exploring the way our environments affect our bodies and minds is of strong interest to her and by creating pieces featuring imagery of oversized botanicals, she hopes to transport people to a place between a playground and a meditative space.

As well as running a personal art practice, she’s interested in creating pieces for and with the community to allow them to access art and to experience its’ benefits in public spaces.
